Fashion alternatives to basic summer shorts

Bermuda Shorts
Shorts create instant horizontal lines across the thighs, and women with shorter legs risk looking “stumpy” when they wear the wrong cut of shorts. Avoid baggy styles with large cuffs because they draw attention to legs, rather than elongating a woman’s silhouette. To elongate legs, try a slim-fitting neutral-colored Bermuda short style that hits just above the knee. In addition, wearing something bright or patterned on top draws the focus to your face, giving the illusion of being taller.

City Shorts
Keeping cool while still looking professional can be challenging in the middle of July. Although comfortable, capris can be unflattering if the pants’ length cuts directly across the calf. In addition, the mid-calf length works against elongating the figure. This summer, try city shorts as a modern and stylish alternative to a skirt or pants; pair them with a feminine blouse, a structured bag and heels to dress up the look.

Miniskirt
Women blessed with great legs should absolutely show them off this summer! While short shorts are a bold choice, they can draw attention away from a complete look especially if they are too form-fitting or paired with a top that is too long. Women should try a miniskirt, such as an A-line style that sits a few inches below the navel and fits well across the hips. Paired with a short.

Patterned Shirtdress
Patterns are a great trend this summer; however, it is important to remember that the eye is naturally drawn to a busy or colorful print. Printed shorts can accentuate the thighs and hips. Instead, spread the pattern out with a simple shirtdress silhouette. This feminine take on the menswear trend is a flattering way to wear a busy pattern. Women should remember that length is key and a shirtdress should hit just above the knee – any shorter and it will look like you stole your boyfriend’s shirt.

Bright Jewel Tones
Women too often are afraid of making a bold statement or standing out by wearing colors, so they opt for a short and top in muted pastels or khaki. This summer, be brave and embrace bright jewel tones. Casual dresses are replacing the standard shorts and T-shirt look and are a fresh, breezy look for the season. The best way to show off sun-kissed golden skin is to wear hot colors like yellow, orange or pink paired with metallic flats or sandals.

Summer beauty fashion tips

Summer fashion tips:

  • Military wear: You got it into your mind as soon as you read it. The extra pockets, and the manly feel they add is far above any competition from other kind of looks. Khakis, jackets, caps are the in things.
  • Polo Shirts: This tops the list of shirts. Wear a polo shirt with a jeans, it is casuals. Add a nice coat, the corporate will invite you. And when you want to mix both formals and casuals, wear a zip-up jacket. Polo shirt will serve you, anywhere, anytime.
  • Layering: It's in at last. And is here to stay. Wear a sweat shirt, cover it up with a cool cotton with half sleeves. And then top it up with a jacket with no sleeves. And if possible add more. But it works, especially in winters and more so with the women around.
  • Logos: This is not a new style either. If you know you have enough money and don't know what to wear, then go the biggest and trendiest store that you find. Put your money and flaunt your logos. But make sure, you don't get too loud or too calm.
  • Use your creativity to mix up things to get what you want.

The type night skincare

1. Take it all off

Before you go to bed, use a gentle cleanser to remove the build-up of grease, grime and make-up. In her book, dermatologist Dr Leslie Baumann says it’s essential to select the right products for your skin type. She believes there are roughly four different skin types and recommends cleansing morning and night with a skin-type-specific cleanser.

  • Oily sensitive skin: Use an exfoliating cleanser to help reduce the risk of acne, clean pores and diminish the appearance of pigmentation. Try Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash, or Dermalogica’s Anti-Bac Skin Wash, which contains salicylic acid to clarify the complexion.
  • Oily resistant skin: Use a cleanser that will help control oil, reduce enlarged pores and minimise the appearance of dark spots. Try Jurlique’s Foaming Facial Cleanser, which contains lavender and tea-tree oil to balance and gently cleanse the skin.
  • Dry sensitive skin: which is pH balanced to maintain moisture levels in the skin. Alternatively, try L’Occitane’s antioxidant-boosted Olive Harvest Olive Daily Face Cleanser.
  • Dry resistant skin: MD Formulations Facial Cleanser – Sensitive Skin Formula, hydrates the skin and at the same time sloughs away dead cells.

2. Slick on a serum

Not so long ago, rich night creams were seen as the real beauty workhorses, doing all the anti-ageing hard yakka while you slept. Today, serums carry most of the load by delivering a host of ingredients to the deeper layers of the skin. “Serums are lighter and more easily absorbed by the skin, so they make great delivery systems,” says Lise Jorgensen, vice president global skincare product development for Estée Lauder. “Far from being dormant at night, the skin is doing a great deal of repair work. We now know that the optimal time to maximise the skin’s natural repair mechanisms is at night.

Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrate, helps shore up the skin’s defences against UV exposure, stress, environmental damage and pollution. Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex Serum, is another easily absorbed formula that helps tone and hydrate the skin. For a complete anti-wrinkle treatment, try Clinique’s Repairwear Deep Wrinkle Concentrate for Face and Eye.

3. Rub in a cream

Skin cells are programmed to react to the information they receive through a complex system of sensors,” explains Lise. “During the day, the skin’s main function is to defend and protect itself. At night, different sensors are at work and clean up any damage from the day.” She says that while the cells are at war during the day, armistice is declared at night so the skin can repair and maintain itself. “The reason you use a cream that’s boosted with enzymes and antioxidants at night is to give the skin a helping hand. And if the night’s work is done more efficiently, the skin is better able to protect itself the next day.

Estée Lauder’s Resilience Lift Extreme OverNight Ultra Firming Creme, is specifically designed for women going through mid-life changes, when the skin loses elasticity and barrier function becomes depleted. The cream contains a cocktail of antioxidants to energise the skin, and help tone and plump it. Avon’s Anew Ultimate Night Transforming Lift Cream, is formulated to lift and tone the skin. It glides on and hydrates the skin effectively. L’Oréal Paris Dermo-Expertise Revitalift Night, contains anti-wrinkle fighters such as Pro-Retinol A (a vitamin-A derivative that helps improve the appearance of fine lines) and a substance the company calls Bio-Vityl, a combination of amino acids, sugars and vitamins that’s designed to stimulate the cell’s metabolic processes.

4. Add in a treatment
Most women massage night cream over their eyes and lips, but it’s a good idea to treat these delicate areas with a cosmetic formulation that’s specifically designed for them. SK-II’s Eye Treatment Film, is a hydrating, all-round eye treatment that’s designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and prevent dark circles and bags. If you’re after a reduction in the creepy little lines around your eyes, try Biotherm’s Anti-Rides Line Peel Yeux, which helps stimulate the skin’s own desquamation process to produce smoother, more luminous skin. One of the most luxurious and easy to use lip treatments available is La Prairie’s Age Management Stimulus Complex Lip Repair. It delivers bio-active retinol to help manage the signs of ageing, an AHA complex to slough away dry flakes of skin, and co-enzyme Q10 and green tea to bolster antioxidants.

The Fashion Guide in holiday

Holiday Packing

We've all experienced that sense of mild panic that inspite of two suitcases we've horribly underpacked. Relax, deep breaths... The fact is, whether you're off on a chic-boutique weekender or 14 nights in the Med, the principles of successful packing don't deviate. Here's how to pack the perfect holiday capsule wardrobe...

The principles of porter-friendly packing:

· Lay everything out on the bed and visualise your different looks. Be ruthless with the editing process.

· Follow the 'three tops to one bottom' rule. Repeat - be ruthless.

· Roll, don't fold your clothes into the suitcase. We don't know how but they really do crease less.

· Pack anything with leaking potential in a plastic bag. The sight of your favourite dry-clean-only dress dripping shampoo is too hideous to contemplate.

· Pack dresses and jeans at the bottom of the case with their ends hanging out on either side of the case. Tops and smaller bits go in the middle and the longer ends wrap over the top, thus creating the fabric equivalent of a spring roll.

· Save on space by packing underwear and swimwear into your shoes.

· If you're off on a girly getaway, don't take six sets of straighteners. Agree in advance who's taking what.

· Cheap luggage looks cheap. What's more it doesn't last. Head to John Lewis for a good selection of wheeled flight bags and suitcases or flex some serious plastic at Mulberry. See Six of the Best Weekend Bags for ideas.

· If you're flying, take your jewellery on board. It's just not worth the risk.

A romantic weekend away

He's just announced he's whisking you away to Babington House for the weekend (or more realistically, to Cardiff for the Division Two playoffs). Think casual chic - also think unpredictable weather. Here's what you'll need:

· Your favourite jeans

· A trench coat: the essential cover-up. Ideal if it's raining or windy and a good bet for evening.

· A knit, cashmere cardy or pretty ballet wrap

· A go-anywhere dress be it a wrap, shirt dress or T-shirt dress

· Two good basic tees. Try Gap or American Apparel.

· Pumps or flats

The Bra on During Sex

It seems that not even 'Playboy' models are happy with their bodies and with their (fake) breasts. Oh, the end of the world as we know it is coming to an end... Jenny McCarthy, former glamor model and reality show star, revealed in a recent interview that she is so disappointed with the way she looks that she never has sex without her bra on.

Jenny is currently dating funnyman Jim Carrey and, while she admits that 'sex [with him] is beautiful', she never allows him to see her without her brassiere, as her boobs are hanging like 'pancakes'. The reporter-friendly blonde says that, besides the fact that she is of a certain age, childbirth left very ugly marks on her once rocking body.

'I do have a C-section that goes right across with the shelf that hangs over. I've got stretch marks. After childbirth, boobs hag down. I will not have sex without my bra. I can't stand it when they slither past my arms and lay flat like pancakes... I'm insecure with the rest of them', Jenny is quoted as saying by starpulse.com.

She is not the first one to go public with the fact that she's not happy with her body. Only last week, fashion icon Victoria Beckham also told 'Harper's Bazaar' that she doesn't like what she sees in the mirror, claiming she has a hanging belly and no ass.
